Benjamin Drazen has been one of New York’s top alto saxophonists for nearly a decade. Working as a sideman and leader he has performed with such jazz greats as Charlie Persip, Rashied Ali, George Garzone, , Lew Soloff, Ron McLure, Santi DeBriano, Marvin Bugalu Smith, Ron Affif, Eric McPherson and Gene Jackson. Outside of the jazz field, Benjamin has also worked with great artists such as Clarence Clemons and Jimmy Sabater. Mr. Drazen has performed as a leader and sideman in New York’s most acclaimed jazz clubs including; The Blue Note, Birdland, Iridium, Smalls, Mintons Playhouse, Smoke, Cornelia St. Cafe, The Knitting Factory, 55 Bar, and Sweet Rhythm. In addition he has worked all over The United States and Canada as a leader and sideman and has currently just finished a tour of China as a featured jazz soloist with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Drazen is also a regularly featured artist with both the Smoke Big Band (Lead by Bill Mobley) and Charlie Persip’s big band called “Supersound.” Benjamin’s new CD entitled “Inner Flights”, released in March of 2011, has already received acclaimed reviews in America’s top jazz publications. (The CD will also be reviewed in Downbeat Magazine and Jazz Times this summer.) In addition, “Inner Flights” has become a radio favorite across the United States and is currently in the top 100 on the Jazz Radio Charts. Mr. Drazen has also been selected to be one of the faculty members of this years Pulwy International Jazz Workshop in Poland in July of 2011. Benjamin is currently a member of the Peter Fish Group and the Brooke Sofferman Trio. They have been touring on and off all over the east coast since 2008.
